Survive the all inclusive holiday

Earlier this year my husband said he wanted to go on a 2 week all inclusive holiday to celebrate his 50th birthday. Don't get me wrong, I know this is a privilege and I am more than happy to travel but the thought of all inclusive just conjures up all the temptations that I will need to either resist or succumb too. Yes, I'm a health coach but I am also a human.

So this is how it went. I planned my mini strategies:

For breakfast I usually had omelette and salad or yoghurt, seeds and fruit or oats.

In this picture I had a cheese and meat salad and fruit, The bread was so sweet that I replaced it with a granary roll.

I didn't drink any of the fruit juices or sodas which are sugar laden, I drank water or herbal tea and 1 coffee or cappuccino a day.

I ate mostly protein and fibre, I basically had meat or fish on one side of my plate and salad/veg on the other.

I didn't have many carbs, they had lovely fresh bread so some days I had a slice but not every day.

They had amazing desserts so if I finished my main and still felt hungry I had one, If I was full I didn't. Just checking if you are hungry makes such a difference, I just mentally checked in with myself and only ate when I needed too.

I did drink wine on some of the nights but made sure I had eaten first and avoided sugar/carbs with my food.

I had an ice- cream and cocktail if I wanted one, I just waited until I really wanted one, not just for the sake of eating/drinking.

I walked a lot, if I felt full I walked it off, there are plenty of beautiful walks on holiday.

I swam as much as possible, I did stretch classes and aqua gym. I took my gym kit but stayed outside so I didn't use the gym. We went to an aqua park and walked up a lot of steps. I moved around as much as possible, playing games with my sons and doing pilates on my sun lounger.

This was my first proper holiday since following the blood sugar balancing programme and I was amazed how easy it was to follow and not feel hungry or like I am depriving myself. It was easy to resist the carbs and sugar because I actually didn't crave them. But at the same time I could eat desserts, chips and drink wine when I wanted too without any guilt.
